Lurex and Lace X Neck Dress
Brand Embers /Cinders
This piece stole my heart. Like something concocted by the brilliant costume designer Van Smith for John Water's "Hairspray" can't you just see this hanging in Velma Von Tussle's closet? I can! And that's why she's now hangin' in this shop!
I love a dress with conflicted morals, and the cut and style of this dress are just that. Naughty cut-out "X" neckline with a fitted sparkle lurex quilted dress in a shift cut, meant to be worn fitted through the bust and waist. Yet somehow, this aspiring bad-girl of a dress had second thoughts about it's direction, and black lace in a voluminous over lay was added, perhaps tempering this dress's potential dangerous curves, while still giving a peek-a-boo of sheer lace through which to view them! Van Smith would approve!
The skirt on the lurex (undermost) layer of the dress also floats away at the hip, into a pencil cut, providing plenty of room should you want to dance the night away with Corny Colins.
The dress appears to be hand or home made, but that doesn't detract from it's glory. It's unlined with a nylon coil center back zipper closure.
