Ruffles and Lace Flamenco Gown
Brand Embers / Cinders Vintage
This is the dress for living out your flamenco dance fantasy. Or for actually turning those dance moves you've been honing into a full-on routine that would make Carmen Amaya proud.
This could be worn as a statement dress or as an actual performance gown. This piece has all the hallmarks of an actionable flamenco gown: fitted bodice with thick cotton lining, full, tiered skirt that is ready and at-your-whip, and split sleeves that are left open at the armpit to not restrict positions of the arm.
The dress has a deep scoop neckline with sheer sleeves that are fitted to elbow, while the sleeve from the elbow down is left open in a hanky hem look, with plenty of lace details and rose colored ribbon running through it. The sleeve has beautiful movement, whether dancing or just walking.
The bodice is fitted with chevron patterns of lace running the length of the front. The lace itself is a cream shade, with the repeating motif of rose colored ribbon woven through it. The lace chevrons meet with the lace of the drop waist and give the illusion of a tiny midsection.
The skirt balloons out into a deluge of ruffles, tier after tier of them, each lined in off white lace, and decorated with bows. The same pink bows decorate each dip in the chevron pattern on the bodice while paper floral clusters decorate each sleeve.
The dress has an equally deep scoop to the back, with a center back metal zipper closure. On the interior of the dress, the name of the dancer to which it belonged "Georgina Lorenzo" is written in pen.
The influence of traditional flamenco attire and the brightly patterned colorful dresses with torrential ruffles on both the skirt and the sleeve have made and continue to make impacts on modern fashion, its motifs repeating and echoing throughout the annals of high fashion, especially, in perpetuity.
