Adele Simpson Yellow and Gold Zig Zag Dress

Here we have designer Adele Simpson's 1960s ultra mod yellow and gold brocade dress.

The dress is short sleeved, with a Peter Pan collar and tailored bodice. The bodice of the dress has a button front of BIG fabric covered buttons, with perfectly shaped little short sleeves. The dress is narrow at the true waist and features a matching belt with fabric covered buckle. Of course the matching belt is included.

The dress has a bit of a fit-and-flare style, with a fairly fitted bodice and flared, bell-shaped skirt -- the hem of which hits at just above the knee.

The dress is full lined in what feels like cotton.

The fabric on this dress is a stunning brocade, a sunny yellow base with gold metallic zigzags running horizontally across it. Adele Simpson's husband, Wesley Simpson, often designed many of the fabric used in her early designs, this is probably too late (1960s) for him to have taken an active hand in, but the fabric is remarkable, none-the-less.

And of course to reiterate-- and with a big tip of the hat-- this piece was designed by the fabulous Adele Simpson: an American fashion designer with a successful career that spanned nearly five decades. But did you know she was also in vaudeville as a child performer, dancing in productions with Milton Berle and other entertainers? What a fascinating life! The dress does have a small spot of discoloration underneath where the belt buckle sits at the waistline. It is faint and completely hidden when the belt is on, but bears mentioning. This happened previous to reaching us, and we believe it's a result of the dress being stored with the belt pressed against it for many years. The belt also shows typical signs of wear. Please see pictures of this. The remainder of the dress is in outstanding condition, however.

Dress buttons from the front and is a step in style. There are no additional buttons or closures.
